Perimenopause and Anxiety

This one symptom was one of the biggest impact on me before I knew I was perimenopausal!
I use the term ‘debilitating anxiety’ because it really was.
Talking to my peers, I realise for each of them it had been a major earlyish symptom too, before they had any inkling perimenopause had began.
One friend had completely lost any confidence to drive, another completely stopped wanting to go out of the house unless absolutely necessary, for all of us it affected our jobs.
We all thought we were too young, but when you release Menopause happens for most women between ages 45-55, and Perimenopause can begin up to 10 years before that…
It’s not unrealistic for symptoms to begin between ages 35-45!!!
Thankfully I was able to advocate for myself with the GP (through the brain fog!!) and armed with information from NICE Guidelines, NHS website and a log of my symptoms which I’d been tracking, I was able to try HRT - and for me it’s been a game changer.
I’m now working on a document ladies can use to take to the GP with the correct NICE guidelines and a symptom tracker, to help open up the conversation with their GP and access the right support.
Watch this space!
